There have been a few moments on my creative journey that have changed the trajectory. The video The Gap by Daniel Sax is one of them. It's a visual delight, weaving together the encouraging words of Ira Glass into the most brilliant two minutes I had ever seen.
Seriously, YOU HAVE TO GO WATCH IT RIGHT NOW https://vimeo.com/85040589 (I'll wait here)
This video came into my life as I was really starting to lean into my natural ability and passion for drawing letters. It spoke to me, reminding me that I needed to keep creating, keep practicing, keep making the work so I could close that gap.
Close that gap.
Close that gap.
And with that video, came a bright, shiny dose of inspiration to create a lettering piece.
I remember creating this piece by hand- sketching, iterating, inking, and framing it up as a loving reminder to KEEP AT IT. I placed it front and center at my desk. It was the biggest piece I had made to date and I was just so proud of how it came out. It's hanging in my office today and I still get waves of pride when I see it.
It sparked a fire inside me to pursue this work that is on my heart. It helps quiet my inner perfectionist and reminds me that part of making great work is making mediocre work first. It gave me permission to just create and create and create so I could get closer and closer to work I could be proud of.
I hope this piece sparks something in you too 🥰
I personally sign each print before shipping, sealing in all the juicy vibes from me to you.
Xoxo,
Coco
